BIO

Gayani Gunasekera is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Discipline of Work and Organisational Studies at the University of Sydney. She holds a PhD in Management from the University of Wollongong, where her doctoral research examined the identity work of skilled immigrant women in Australian workplaces.

Her research examines the intersections of work, identity and inclusion. She is particularly interested in how identities are shaped, negotiated and reconstructed across organisational and social contexts. Her work focuses on immigrant identities, identity work, diversity and inclusion, and equity in organisations. More recently, she has also explored student experiences in higher education, with particular attention to how equity is defined, understood and operationalised within universities.

Gayani has taught across undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the University of Sydney and the University of Wollongong. Her teaching spans organisational behaviour, leadership, responsible business and career development. She has also contributed to subject coordination, curriculum design and educational initiatives that centre inclusion, reflection and Indigenous perspectives in business education.

Her scholarship is grounded in qualitative and interpretive research methods and is motivated by a commitment to advancing more inclusive workplaces and educational institutions. Through her research and teaching, she seeks to deepen understanding of identity, belonging and equitable participation in contemporary organisational life.
