RESEARCH INTERESTs
Erin's research centres around host-microbe interactions relevant to human health.
With a background in molecular microbiology, microbial ecology and immunology, she aims to understand the mechanisms by which gut microbes may promote health or drive disease.
The gut microbiota is essential for health, however disruption to this microbial community is implicated in a variety of disease states, including chronic gastrointestinal disorders and colorectal cancer. Diet is a key factor driving host-gut microbiota interactions, and we aim to understand how specific nutrients influence the functional properties of the microbiota, as well as how microbes and microbial products influence gut health, colorectal cancer risk, and systemic immune processes.
Erin's research aligns with the Faculty of Science Research Strengths - Preventing and Treating Disease & Disorder, Understanding Disease & Disorder in Humans.
