BIO
Dr Emma Wallace is a Senior Lecturer in Speech Pathology at the University of Sydney, with an internationally recognised research program focused on improving dysphagia care. Her research has a strong emphasis on implementation science, ensuring that evidence-based interventions are effectively translated into practice to improve patient outcomes.
Dr Wallace’s early research advanced understanding of the sensorimotor mechanisms underlying swallowing and cough impairment. Building on this foundation, she leads innovative research programs in dysphagia telerehabilitation and service delivery redesign, including student-led and technology-enabled models of care for people with complex swallowing disorders.
Dr Wallace is a Chief Investigator on multiple funded projects, including studies on dysphagia telerehabilitation for stroke survivors and head and neck cancer. Her work is supported by competitive grants and recognised through national and international awards, reflecting both scientific excellence and translational impact.
In addition to her research, Dr Wallace provides leadership within the profession through editorial roles, national committees and boards and curriculum development. She is committed to mentoring emerging researchers and clinicians, and to strengthening the integration of research, education, and clinical practice in speech pathology.
