RESEARCH INTERESTs
Emily's research investigates novel ways to improve the health of beneficial insects like honey bees, examining host-parasite interactions, virus discovery and evolution, and improved methods to control pests, parasites and diseases of insects.
Current projects
- Understand the role of the honey bee parasitic mite varroa as a vector by defining their unique antiviral pathway
- Characterise the virome of honey bees during novel Varroa mite incursions
- Identify safer, selective pest control methods that minimise harm to beneficial insects, like honey bee
Emily's research aligns with the Faculty of Science Research Strengths - Understanding Life on Earth, Molecules to Materials, Healthy Animals, Biodiversity Conservation, Food Security, Biosecurity, Healthy Ecosystems, Future Foods.
