Associate ProfessorEleonora Feletto

Associate Professor Eleonora Feletto is a Principal Research Fellow and cancer epidemiologist in the School of Public Health at the University of Sydney, where she leads the Gastrointestinal Cancers group and is a core member of the Cancer Elimination Collaboration. Her research integrates epidemiology, modelling, implementation science and co‑design to advance prevention, early detection and equitable access to care for colorectal and liver cancers.

Eleonora’s work spans the full pathway of cancer control, from quantifying population burden to generating evidence that directly informs policy. She has led technical working groups for two NHMRC‑endorsed national clinical guidelines: surveillance for hepatocellular carcinoma in high‑risk individuals and colorectal cancer screening, including risk‑stratified recommendations based on family history. These efforts have shaped major policy decisions, including changes to the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program and the expansion of eligibility to Australians aged 45–49.

She leads several Cancer Institute NSW–funded projects that co‑produce information resources and referral tools to improve colonoscopy access, including Refer4Scope, now implemented across multiple Primary Health Networks via HealthPathways and featured in an Australian Government GP education module. As CIA on the MAIL, GP and SCALE project, she co-designed and trialled a practice‑based intervention across more than 80 general practices nationwide.

Across all her work, Eleonora is committed to generating rigorous, policy‑relevant evidence that accelerates progress toward cancer elimination. She collaborates widely with clinicians, communities and early‑ and mid‑career researchers to develop scalable, person‑centred interventions that reduce the burden of gastrointestinal cancers in Australia.
