ProfessorDaniel Steffens

Professor Daniel Steffens is the Senior Director of the Surgical Outcomes Research Centre (SOuRCe) at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Professor at the University of Sydney, and a Career Development Fellow with the Cancer Institute NSW. He leads a multidisciplinary team of more than 25 researchers across over 250 active projects spanning advanced gastrointestinal, colorectal, robotics, orthopaedic, and vascular surgery.

 

Prof Steffens has published over 240 peer-reviewed papers and secured more than $10 million in competitive research funding. His research program focuses on preoperative optimisation, surgical outcomes, and recovery after major cancer surgery. He is Chief Investigator of landmark multicentre clinical trials, including the NHMRC-funded PRIORITY Trial and the MRFF-funded PRIORITY-CONNECT 2 Trial, which are redefining perioperative care models across Australia.
