RESEARCH INTERESTs

Dr. Pearson's research investigates how learned associations determine what captures our attention. Current projects examine how learned associations with reward (e.g., money, food, or drugs), and information value (stimuli that reduce our uncertainty) automatically shape what we attend to.

Dr Pearson uses eye-tracking, electrophysiological techniques, and computational modeling to explore how these attention mechanisms operate, adapt to changing environments, and influence decision-making. This work has applications ranging from designing effective health and public policy communications to understanding addiction, vulnerability to misinformation and compulsive information-seeking.

His research aligns with the Faculty of Science Research Strengths in Brain, Behaviour and Cognition, and Preventing and Treating Disease & Disorder.
