BIO

Dalia Nassar is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Sydney and a Future Fellow of the Australian Research Council.

She is also the host of the podcast, The Wednesday Society.

Dalia's work sits at the intersection of the history of German philosophy and environmental philosophy and ethics.

Her monograph, Romantic Empiricism: Nature, Art, and Ecology from Herder to Humboldt (Oxford University Press, 2022; paperback 2026) investigates the understudied tradition of romantic empiricism, highlights its significance for the development of ecology, and argues for its relevance in addressing environmental concerns.

Her Future Fellowship project (2025-2028), Women Philosophers on Nature and the Human: Toward a New Environmental Ethic, explores the neglected history of women's contributions to the debates concerning the crucial categories of the "natural" and the "human," and aims to determine the ways in which women's historical perspectives can enrich both our understanding of the history of philosophy and contemporary debates.

Dalia is a co-investigator on the SSHRC (Canada) grant, Extending New Narratives in the History of Philosophy.

Her work has been translated into Norwegian, Arabic, German and Japanese. The German edition of Romantic Empiricism - Romantischer Empirismus - can be found here.
