RESEARCH PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES

  • PROJECT
Comparison of two Leptospira spp. antibody point-of-care testing methods in healthy dogs after vaccination against leptospirosis and its implications for diagnosis of naturally occurring leptospirosis
    1 Sep 2025 - 28 Feb 2026
    Project leaders:
    • Griebsch C
Determine if Leptospira spp. antibodies can be detected in sera of healthy dogs after vaccination with a monovalent antileptospiral vaccine containing serovar Copenhageni (ProtechC2i, Boehringer Ingelheim, Australia) using two leptospirosis POC testing methods currently used by veterinarians in NSW, Australia so that implications for diagnosing naturally occurring leptospirosis in vaccinated dogs using POC tests can be assessed.
  • PROJECT
Duration of Leptospira shedding after commencement of antimicrobial therapy in dogs with leptospirosis
    4 Nov 2023
    Project leaders:
    • Griebsch C
to determine the duration of Leptospira shedding after commencement of antibacterial treatment, to inform development of evidence-based safety guidelines for minimising the risk posed by urine in canine leptospirosis cases.
  • PROJECT
Investigation into the role of Leptospira in dogs with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and/or polyuria and polydipsia (PU/PD).
    4 Nov 2023
    Project leaders:
    • Griebsch C
To investigate the role of leptospirosis infection in progression of CKD.
  • PROJECT
Emerging leptospirosis in dogs in Australia – investigation of new cases, seroprevalence and silent shedders of Leptospira in dogs and cats
    Boehringer Ingelheim (Australia)1 Jul 2019
    Project leaders:
    • Griebsch C
Continued investigation of new cases of canine leptospirosis to identify possible hotspots, determine which strains of the bacteria are involved and to investigate the risk of healthy dogs to get infected after contact with leptospirosis infected dogs.
  • RESEARCH-BASED DEGREE SUPERVISION
Genetic Variant underlying Xanthinuria in a population of Munchkin cats
  • RESEARCH-BASED DEGREE SUPERVISION
Prevalence of Neosporosis and Toxoplasmosis in dogs with immune mediated disease on treatment with immunosuppressive medication.
