BIO

Dr Cassandra Sedran-Price is a proud Muruwari/Gangugari woman who completed her PhD in Marine Science at the University of Tasmania. She has an interdisciplinary background spanning climate ecology, natural resource management, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, and national data development.

Cassandra is currently a Senior Researcher at the University Centre for Rural Health, University of Sydney. Her research explores the intersections between Country, culture, and health, embedding this understanding across both environmental and public health research. She is dedicated to advancing Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Indigenous Data Governance across academia, research institutions, environmental research, and the GLAM sector (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums).

She has successfully developed and implemented policies, structures, and processes to support Indigenous Data Governance within various government and non-government agency settings. Cassandra plays a pivotal role in formulating strategies and policies that protect and promote Indigenous knowledges to drive meaningful and systemic change.

She collaborates with the Collaboratory for Indigenous Data Governance (United States), a collective focused on advancing Indigenous-led approaches to data governance, sovereignty, and ethical data futures. She also co-chairs the Indigenous Steering Committee of the HEAL Network, working to ensure Indigenous voices and knowledge are central to evidence-based solutions for healthier people and ecosystems—particularly in the face of climate change.

Her leadership across high-profile committees, networks, and task forces reflects her strong commitment to embedding Indigenous perspectives within science, data policy, and research governance.
