BIO
Dr Carolyn Broderick is a Principal Research Fellow at the Heat and Health Research Centre, University of Sydney. She is an internationally recognised sport and exercise medicine physician, with extensive experience working at the intersection of health, performance and environmental stress research. She also serves as Chief Medical Officer for Tennis Australia and the Australian Open, and as Medical Director for the Australian Olympic Team at the Paris 2024 Games – bringing elite clinical practice and policy expertise to all facets of sport and human performance.
Carolyn’s research interests span heat-related health risks, injury and illness prevention, and evidence-based guideline development for physical activity and sport across the lifespan, with a focus on translating science into real-world policy and practice. She co-authored internationally influential heat and health guidance, including the Sports Medicine Australia Extreme Heat Policy and contributions to the Lancet heat and health series.
At the Heat and Health Research Centre, Carolyn plays a vital role by strengthening the Centre’s multidisciplinary efforts to tackle extreme heat challenges. Her contributions support HHRC’s mission to generate evidence and tools that protect health and performance under rising global temperatures, from elite sport to community settings, and help build resilience in athletes, workers, and everyday Australians.
