RESEARCH INTERESTs

Benedetta Brevini's research is grounded in a critical political economy that investigates the relations between communications, data capitalism, AI and the Climate Crisis. It has two main strands.

The first explores data-driven communication technologies and AI policies in comparative settings and the roles of political, economic and corporate power in sustaining or thwarting the development of data-driven technologies in the public interest. The second examines the connections between Artificial Intelligence and climate change by critically challenging hegemonic assumptions about technology: platformization and datafication have accelerated our consumption of raw materials and energy, rapidly compounding our global environmental challenges.
