BIO

 

Dr Asres Bedaso Tilahune is a public health researcher, joined the Daffodil Centre (Cancer Council NSW) as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in December 2023, initially working within the Breast Cancer Policy and Evaluation stream. Starting from October 2025, he transitioned to the Breast Cancer Clinical and Population Health team (University of Sydney) as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, within the same Centre. He obtained his PhD in Public Health from the University of Technology Sydney in September 2023.

 

He has over eight years of quantitative research experience focusing on different public health topics and conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Dr Tilahune has previously worked for Curtin University, as a Research Assistant in the School of Population Health. Prior to his PhD, he had been a faculty member at Hawassa University, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Ethiopia, involved in research, teaching, and community service activities. He has experience working on risk and protective factors for mental health and low social support among Australian women in the perinatal period using both population-based cohort and administrative health data in Australia. He has an international and national reputation in the areas of mental health, substance use, and medical research.

 

Dr Tilahune is currently serving as an editor for three internationally reputable medical journals, such as BMC Public Health, PLOS ONE, and Frontiers in Psychiatry. His work has focused on the use of both routinely collected primary and secondary data, and meta-analyses to inform health service delivery and policy, as well as generating new knowledge.
