BIO

PharmD, MPH, FASHP, FCCP

Professor Patanwala is Chair of Clinical Pharmacy and is jointly based at the University of Sydney School of Pharmacy and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University (U.S.) and then worked as a pharmacist at the University of Chicago Hospital. He subsequently completed pharmacy practice and critical care residencies at the University of Arizona Medical Center and a Master of Public Health with a focus in Biostatistics. During his time as an academic at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy, Professor Patanwala was a clinical-researcher and educator and provided clinical pharmacy services to emergency, trauma, and critical care patients. He is a registered pharmacist in both the United States and Australia and is Board Certified in Critical Care Pharmacy. His research interests relate to medication use in critical care, emergency, and peri-operative settings. He serves on the Ethics committee and is the Deputy Chair of the Clinical Trials Sub-Committee for the Sydney Local Health District. He has published 200+ journal articles including those in NEJM and JAMA, and received over $15 million as a Chief Investigator on grants and contracts. He oversees the experiential education of pharmacy students at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
