Artem Prokhorov is a professor at the Discipline of Business Analytics of the University of Sydney Business School and an internationally recognised scholar in econometrics. Artem is a research fellow at the Centre interuniversitaire de recherche en économie quantitative (CIREQ) at University of Montreal, Canada, a co-founder of the International Research Center for Econometrics and Business Analytics (CEBA) at St. Petersburg State University, Russia, and a founding member of the International Society for Efficiency and Productivity Analysis (ISEAPA). Artem holds a PhD in Economics from Michigan State University and, prior to joining the University of Sydney, had held an appointment as an assistant and tenured associate professor at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.

 

Professor Prokhorov's research interests are in the field of theoretical and applied econometrics, with applications in business, finance, risk management, labour and health economics, among other fields, and have intersections with statistical machine learning and high-dimensional statistics. His research has appeared in top field journals such as the Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics and Journal of Banking and Finance and attracted extensive competitive research funding from Australian Research Council (ARC), Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FQRSC), Russian Science Foundation (RNF), Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), as well as from numerous industry partners.

 

Professor Prokhorov regularly consults business and government on questions involving quantitative analysis and has served as an expert witness for the Federal Court of Australia. He is currently on the editorial boards of six highly-ranked journals and on the reviewer board of four grant agencies internationally, including ARC. Having held a number of visiting professorial appointments at the world’s leading universities such as Harvard and University of California, he is regularly invited to chair evaluation panels of national academies of sciences and universities worldwide and to serve as an external examiner for academic promotion and tenure cases in Australia, Canada and the US as well as on scientific committees of influential international conferences in econometrics and business analytics. Professor Prokhorov is also an inaugural member of the Higher School of Economics Graduate School of Business Academic Council for the doctoral program in management (Moscow, Russia).

 

Professor Prokhorov teaches courses in econometrics, business statistics and machine learning for business at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and accepts highly motivated and well prepared students for PhD supervision. Professor Prokhorov has diverse and industry-focused teaching experience, having taught in Canada, Russia and the US and having worked at a German investment bank.
