Arianne Sweeting is an Associate Professor in Endocrinology at the University of Sydney and an Endocrinologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, where she established and leads the Maternal Metabolic Health program. A/Professor Sweeting is also an executive member and thematic expert in diabetes for the World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Physical Activity, Nutrition and Obesity, Boden Initiative, Charles Perkins Centre, and the Prevention Research Collaboration, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney, as well as for the Sydney Health Partners Diabetes and Obesity Clinical Academic Group (SHP DO-CAG).

Her PhD in gestational diabetes risk management was supported by NHMRC postgraduate and Dr Albert S McKern obstetric scholarships, while her postdoctoral research in early gestational diabetes was supported by NHMRC and Australian Diabetes Society (ADS) Skip Martin Early Career Fellowships.

A/Professor Sweeting's international diabetes in pregnancy roles include the International Association for the Diabetes in Pregnancy Study Groups (IADPSG) Council, Precision Medicine Diabetes Initiative, diaTribe Foundation Diabetes Technology in Pregnancy Consensus, International Diabetes Federation Early Gestational Diabetes Consensus and as an external expert for the WHO Non-Communicable Diseases in Pregnancy, Diabetes in Pregnancy Guideline Development Group. Nationally, A/Professor Sweeting is on the Living Guidelines LEAPP Pregnancy Guideline Leadership Group, the ADS representative on the Diabetes Australia Medical, Education and Scientific Advisory Council, and was Past-President of the Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society (ADIPS) from 2020-2022 and Board Member from 2022-2024, co-authoring the 2025 national gestational diabetes screening and diagnosis recommendations. 

A/Professor Sweeting’s program of research aims to advance precision medicine in diabetes in pregnancy and early gestational diabetes, focused on novel diagnostic and treatment interventions, to improve pregnancy and long-term metabolic health for women and their babies.
