BIO

Professor Gardner is a research fellow with the Sydney School of Health Sciences. He serves as a member of the World Rugby Concussion Working Group, he is the concussion consultant to Rugby Australia, and serves on the Australian Football League concussion scientific advisory group. Prof Gardner is the Principal Investigator of the Former Elite Level Athlete Brain Health Research Program.

Prof Gardner is a clinical neuropsychologist with a particular interest in sports concussion. His research interests cover the full spectrum of concussion, from injury prevention with tackle techniques, to injury identification via video analysis, to acute assessment through the validation of various measures, to the evaluation of later life brain and mental health of former athletes.

Prof Gardner has established strong research collaborations, particularly with international experts from Harvard Medical School, Leeds Beckett Univeristy, and Vanderbilt University. He has created strong relationships through community engagement and sports concussion educational programs and works at the interface of research and clinical application.
