RESEARCH INTERESTs

Dr Gonzalez-Cordero’s research focuses on translational stem cell and gene and cell therapy approaches to treat inherited and acquired sensory disorders, particularly those causing blindness and deafness. Her work integrates developmental biology, stem cell technology, and precision medicine to develop clinically relevant therapies.
Key areas of interest include:
  • Pluripotent stem cell biology and organoid technology
  • Disease modelling using patient-derived iPSCs
  • Retinal, auditory, and brain organoid development
  • Mechanisms of inherited retinal and neurodegenerative diseases
  • Photoreceptor cell replacement therapies
  • AAV-based gene therapy and CRISPR gene editing
  • Bioengineering strategies to enhance cell transplantation (e.g., electrical stimulation)
  • Translational pathways from laboratory discovery to clinical trials
