RESEARCH INTERESTs

I am interested in the contemporary processes and morphodynamics of coastal systems. My main current fields of research are:

  1. Eco-Morphodynamics of Coral Reefs and Coral Reef Islands. How do coral reefs function and form and how do they respond to climate change.
  2. Eco-Morphodynamics of beaches in estuaries and bays. How are these beaches different from their open coast counterparts? What is important about them? How do ecosystem restoration (oysters, seagrass…) affect them?
  3. Morphodynamics of Embayed beaches. Sydney’s eastern beaches are embayed. How are they different from non-embayed beaches? what about ephemeral beaches that appear and disappear?

I am a keen fieldworker and have experience in acquiring and processing hydrodynamic, topographic and bathymetric data. I have also worked with fluorescent tracers for studying sediment transport processes. I also use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as a tool to analyse recent and present data.

My research aligns with the Faculty of Science Research Strengths, I am the Mission Champion for Expanding Knowledge.
