BIO
Dr Alice Gibson is an Accredited Practising Dietitian, epidemiologist, and NHMRC Investigator Grant Fellow (EL1, 2020-2026; EL2, 2027-2031). She holds a Bachelor of Science (Nutrition), a Master of Clinical Epidemiology, and a PhD in obesity management.
Dr Gibson's research focuses on generating real-world evidence from population-level linked health datasets to inform policy, practice, and funding decisions for the prevention and management of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and related chronic conditions. Using epidemiological and health services research methods, she aims to improve the effectiveness, equity, and value of healthcare systems.
She is leading the development of the NSW Diabetes Data Hub in partnership with Diabetes Australia, NSW Health, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), and primary and secondary care partners including the Nepean Blue Mountains and Western Sydney Primary Health Networks and Local Health Districts. The NSW Diabetes Data Hub will inform the development of the Australian Diabetes Atlas, with the overarching aim of providing timely, policy-relevant data on diabetes prevention and management to support evidence-based policy, service planning, and prevention decision-making.
Dr Gibson also co-leads a research program examining the links between oral health and cardiometabolic health, with a focus on opportunities for integrated disease prevention and management. In addition, she leads research investigating the public health and nutrition impacts of the digital food environment, including food delivery platforms and their influence on dietary behaviours and nutrition outcomes.
Her research spans nutrition, epidemiology, health services research, and population health, with a strong emphasis on translating complex health data into actionable evidence that improves health outcomes and informs health policy.
