Much of my work centres on the role of microbial traits (e.g. carbon and nitrogen fixation, nutrient fluxes, stoichiometric plasticity) in maintaining ecosystem homeostasis. I use a combinationmolecular ecology, stable isotope labelling, and biochemical profiling using advanced mass spectrometry and bioinformatics to uncover how microbes connect the abiotic world with living organisms.

Some of my research interests include:

  • How do microbial communities adapt to rainfall and drought extremes in agricultural soils?
  • How does microbial storage influence nutrient availability for crops and soil fertility?
  • How do microbial symbionts contribute to nutrition to their hosts?
  • Carbon and nitrogen fixation, as well as phosphorus solubilisation mechanisms.
